Sharing Life With Others

Do Something!

on September 2, 2014

Have you heard the Matthew West song Do Something?  This has really gotten me to thinking every time I hear it on the radio.

Take a few minutes to watch the video and more importantly listen to the words:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_RjndG0IX8.

God created each of us with talents and abilities.  He wants us to use them…not complain that one person can’t make a difference. Simple things like smiling to a stranger or asking our neighbor how they are doing is doing something.  I watched something really neat happen a few weeks ago when we were eating out.  Three men dressed in fatigues were eating in a local restaurant.  I saw another man approach the waitress and talk to her for a few minutes.  He paid for their meal.  When the soldiers finished their meal and were looking for check the waitress told them that it was all paid for.  They wanted to thank the man but he was already gone.  She told them that he wanted to thank them for their service.  That is seizing a moment!

The Do Something Summer of Purpose movement has spawned a lot of good things going on in the world.  Reading about it makes you realize that there are so many people who want to help others.  It has been neat to watch this move beyond the walls of the church.

Doing something for others doesn’t have to be a big show and you don’t have to be a big star.  God commanded us to love one another.

I’d love to hear from you.  Have you or your family done something for others lately? If you haven’t maybe it is time to rally the troops and come up with a project to support.

Grace and Peace to you,

Mary Lu
